Hello Eveline, while i think virtual worlds are great for holding meetings of geographically dispersed participants I agree there are some problems. The learning curve for SL is relatively steep and I think not worth the time investment if its just a one off meeting, although the skill aquired are mostly transferable to other worlds (in my experience). I have also encountered some privacy issues with using the inworld voice client or even text for closed meetings, one solution is to use a third party solution, e.g. Skype conference or one of the members here http://www.virtualworldsconnect.com/xn/detail/u_KeithWeiner
offers another solution. I recommend, if you havn't already, attending some of the inworld events, maybe try some classes (search->events->education), just to experience the limits of the medium for yourself.
