I'm a virtual world enthusiast, but I don't work in the virtual world industry. I'm in Second Life, There, Hipihi, Kaneva, Multiverse, ActiveWorlds, and others. I'm waiting on acceptance into the Novoking virtual world, hoping to get in uWorld.
I'm a uWorld beta tester, that's why I've been able to log in using version 1.16.
I figure it out myself, though; the website accepts "Suezanne" with a capital S, and once I get inworld the name over my avatar's head shows "Suezanne" with a capital S, as can seen in the uWorld pictures I've put up on Photobucket or Flickr, but in order to log in to uWorld 1.20e, I have to use "suezanne" with a lowercase S.
Not sure if it's visible, but I don't generally hide my email addy anyway, so that alone might not explain the increase.
As it turns out, the emails are in Russian. My original thought was that it was Novoking itself, but now I'm thinking it might be a contractor selling contact lists. Assuming, of course, the sudden increase after my registration isn't simply coincidental.
I get so much spam it's hard for me to judge if I might have gotten an increase in spam from joining any particular place.
There's 698 pieces of spam in my suezanne at gmail dot com email account. That didn't take long to accumulate.
Does your email address appear in your visible Novoking profile?
At one site, possibly Novoking, it asks for your address, phone number, mobile phone numbe, etc.... and it displays them. The questions aren't required to be filled out. I'm sure there will be folks at that place filling in the data, thinkin it's require, and that it is not part of a public profile. Then they'll get email spam, phone spam, snail mail spam, maybe even door to door spam!
Question for you Suezanne: did you experience an increase in spam originated in Asia after signing up for Novoking? Since registering my email has come under assault and I'm wondering if they're selling the data to raise funds.

Oh well. That's why I use a free email service.
