In response to your post below, my primary interest is in the social development of political and economic systems within virtual worlds. I created a group on here to discuss exactly that. You might find it of interest. : ))
Examples of trust systems are everywhere - it is what runs the social web. Social network friends might be an example of a trust sytem - LinkedIn is an example. It is a social structure, not a physical one.
Examples of the right techniques for focus groups - that is a hard one. Research companies that are doing it are unwilling to share them as that is their competitive advantage and they have built up their techniques through experience.
Research studies concerning vw: I can point you to Market Truths (one of my partner companies) and Represe - they are both doing market research in SL. What type of research are you interested in? Market research? Behavioral research? Educational research? There is much research about vws - I would point you to Nick Yee's website as a starting point.
Alts are alternative avatars - people create more than one often and they are referred to as Alts.
Hello Linda.
First of all thanks for your extended answer ...
After reading your answer and following my exploration of VW, i'd like to know some more about VW. May be you can help me on the following:
1) Do you know where could i find some examples of that "Trusting systems" you talk about?
2) Same way, ¿where could i find some examples of right techniques suited to web and VW for focus groups?
3) Do you know if there are Research Studies available concerning VW?
4) And finnally, you say on your answer: “ It is *essential* that you have ethical research standards, disclosures and methods to validate avs (such as whether they are alts) ... What does "alts" mean? ...
Ok Linda. First of all .. i have a doubt. Is it legal to get information from the avatars inside a VW like Second Life? ... Is it possible and efficient to organize a Focus Groups inside SL? How to convince "honest" people to add a Focus Group? And how to select properly thar people ... ? ... Well this are some of my first doubts ... What could you tell me about that questions?
Hi Linda. Thanks for joining the group. You know me as Da Etchegaray in SL. I've started a company and this group to discuss workplace applications for VR. d
great Linda ... next step is to be able to find a short time for chatting about that, but due to timetable (I'm in Spain), that is more difficult to achieve (eventhough i'd be glad to chat with you) May be we can keep in touch through the Forum .. just talking about our ideas or experiences concerning virtual worlds .. and leave the chat for the moment we need absolutly to talk ... I also have the skype address: jmco_marketing
Main issue to expose to you: I'm absolutly convinced that in Spain there is no professional market research done concerning avatars behaviour; and a lot of companies are demanding that information ... huge work to do ! ... let's keep in contact. Hope i can give you few added value also !
