ISN Virtual Worlds is the leading Italian service provider for online virtual worlds and web 2.0. ‘PROMETEO’, the Italian Contienent in SL

Prometeo is a continent in Second Life dedicated to the Italian community. Spanning 17 islands, Prometeo offers users a wide range of events and activities, covering music, dance, concerts, competitions, fashion, art galleries, sporting events, residential areas, shops, machinima productions, virtual learning courses, a virtual hospital dedicated to health and disease prevention, a virtual university, and Italy Orientation Island. ISN Virtual Worlds began developing the continent in May 2007, and it has been growing steadily ever since in terms of total area, users, and hosted activities. It now represents the main hub of cultural and recreational activities in SL for the Italian community, with plans to merge with similar lands targeted at other European communities to form a single, European continent.

TIM Soccer

ISN and Telecom Italia Mobile, Italy’s leading mobile phone carrier, developed the ‘TIM Stadium’ in June 2007. The stadium, modeled on Milan’s San Siro stadium, is dedicated to the virtual soccer community. Here, hundreds of users participate in Second Life’s leading virtual soccer tournament, with the most advanced gameplay software in SL, a dedicated web portal (www.v-soccer.net), club and national team competitions, complex team management mechanisms, virtual soccer academy for the training of new recruits, and a series of dedicated events on the side. To date, we have successfully run through the first season of our competition for clubs, the SerieSL TIM, the ISN World Cup, the TIM Cup for clubs, and a series of high profile exhibition matches, with the second season of our club competition kicking off in September 2008.

Alice Racing

ISN and Alice, Telecom Italia’s broadband provider, developed the Alice Virtual Racing sim in June 2007. The area contains a racetrack modeled on the Monza F1 circuit, complete with paddock, stands, and garage, as well as a club bar and restaurant hosting a series of concerts and events both during races and throughout most evenings. The circuit offers users from Italy and all over the world a chance to compete in Formula1 and MotoGP competitions, with top-of-the-line vehicles in terms of aesthetics and racing software and high-end prizes in linden dollars. We recently closed the Spring editions of the MotoGP and Formula1 tournaments, with the Autumn editions opening in September.

Machinima

ISN Virtual Worlds has developed a number of machinima productions in-house, both to showcase our lands and activities, and as informational and promotional multimedia for our clients. Together with Intermedia SRL, our partner in the Italian health sector, we developed a series of infomercials and short dramas geared at developing awareness and promoting effective precautionary measures for breast cancer, drug abuse, alcohol consumption, and contraception. For Telecom Italia, we produced a series of short musicals serving to showcase Telecom spaces and events within Second Life.

v-Learning Applications

Virtual Learning is one of ISN Virtual Worlds’ core business services. We have developed a number of sims and ad-hoc software applications dedicated to specific training programs, simulations, and collaborative spaces for our clients. Together with Intema SRL, Italian eLearning service providers, we are developing a cross-platform virtual learning application that makes use of both web and 3D virtual worlds to deliver powerful training and document sharing services. The applications leverages the ease of document sharing and user testing of the web, and the immersive and illustrative potential of Second Life, to provide a single solution for virtual learning and document sharing to Italian corporations.

Virtual Construction Yards

The ‘Cantieri Virtuali’ sim (Virtual Construction Yards) is a virtual re-creation of real life construction yards. The sim presents a series of scenarios representing potential safety hazards within various types of construction sites (residential, industrial, restructuring and renovation, digs, and roadways). With the aid of custom built software and the integration of web testing, construction companies make use of the sim to test and train their builders on proper construction procedures.

Virtual University

Our latest project is the Virtual University, housed on one of ISN’s central sims. The Virtual University provides virtual classrooms and teaching and training tools in Second Life to both real life educational institutions and existing groups within SL. The VU will offer students a set of courses covering topics both pertinent to Second Life, such as building and scripting courses, and to Real Life. We are currently in the process of setting up a network of established educational institutions that wish to offer a portion of their curricula online, within Second Life.
