Exploring the Virtual World Of Second Life

On June 23, 2003, Linden Lab introduced Second Life, a virtual world for the Internet. Since then, the number of users, or “Residents”, has grown into the millions, and is enjoyed by gamers worldwide. This virtual world is reminiscent of The Sims, but is completely online, and, if you are 18 years of age or older, you can do just about anything you can do in the real world. Just don’t forget to visit the real world once in a while too!
Getting Started
Although there are paid memberships available, this is a game that you can play for free, with minimal equipment needed. There is no software to purchase, and the download is free.
In order to play Second Life, you will need the following:
- Access to the Internet
- Computer
- Operating system, such as Windows, Mac or Linux
- Second Life Account
To get started in the Second Life world, you need to create your character. Once you choose a name, you can then choose an avatar, which can be customized in any way that you want. When you have your avatar completed, you are ready to begin enjoying your Second Life.

You Can Do Just About Anything In Second Life
This is a really great game for anyone over 18. There are absolutely no limits to what you can do in the virtual Second Life. If shopping is your thing, you can visit the stores. You can purchase property, sell items, chill at a bar, or watch movies and videos.
Second Life is a popular way to reconnect with old friends, and make new ones. With thousands of people playing any time you log on, there is always someone to chat with. In fact, there are actual corporations, government entities and others setting up accounts to attract business.
Make Money In Second Life
Each month, just like in reality, Second Life Residents use a currency called Linden Dollars to buy and sell products and services. Ways you can earn money include selling furniture and clothing, owning businesses and even giving tattoos. Other Residents may even hire you for virtual jobs.
The really awesome thing that has people going wild for Second Life is the fact that the Linden Dollars can actually be converted into REAL CASH! Money can be converted to US dollars through an exchange, and there are real people making real money with this online virtual world. Don’t expect to make a fortune, but there is some money to be made in Second Life.
